Pioneer Pantry, is a free on-campus pantry service at UW-Platteville that provides food and hygiene products to students experiencing food insecurity—a lack of consistent access to enough food for a healthy, active lifestyle. All currently enrolled students are eligible to use the pantry.
There’s no income verification or paperwork required. Students just need to bring their Campus Card and swipe it when they visit. This helps track visit numbers and peak usage times. Your personal information is protected and reported only in aggregate.
The pantry operates in a shopping-style format, allowing students to select the items they need. It is located at the northeast entrance of Glenview Commons (Door E5) and is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.
Students may visit once per week and are limited to one bag of items per visit. Bags are not provided, so please bring your own. Some high-demand items may have limits posted to ensure everyone has equal access.
Pioneer Pantry stocks a wide variety of items, including:

Proteins (canned meats, beans, tuna, peanut butter)
Grains (pasta, rice, cereal, bread)
Fruits and vegetables (canned, dried, fresh)
Convenience meals (soups, ravioli, etc.)
Diet-specific options (vegetarian, gluten-friendly)
Hygiene products (shampoo, toothpaste, period products)

Free period products are also available across campus restrooms through the Red Basket Project, with generous support from Kimberly-Clark. Look for red baskets in women’s and all-gender restrooms.
Pioneer Pantry is managed by a student organization and supported by dedicated volunteers. It also hosts donation drives, awareness events, and other opportunities for students to get involved.
If you need extra support, want to visit outside of regular hours, or are interested in donating or volunteering, email pioneerprovisions@uwplatt.edu.
Donations of unopened, non-perishable food items and hygiene products are accepted during pantry hours. Food donations up to one year past their expiration date are welcome as long as the packaging is intact and safe to consume. Monetary donations can also be made through the UW-Platteville Foundation.
To stay updated or get involved, follow Pioneer Pantry on PioneerLink, Facebook, and Instagram.

As Alliant Energy’s largest installation completed to date in Wisconsin, the Grant County Solar Project in Potosi, Wisconsin, provides 200MW of renewable energy to the communities that Alliant Energy serves. As a key component of the greater 1.1GW Wisconsin Utility-Solar Program completed in 2024, the project represents a commitment to responsible, cost-effective power generation that bolsters a diverse energy mix. This seminar will explore how a project of this scale is developed from the early stages of land acquisition and engineering, through execution and construction, and how future-sighted engineering can enable integration with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Starting at Noon on Sunday, April 6th, Pioneer Baseball takes on UW-Whitewater for the 4th Annual Marc Heidorf Memorial Game.
Coach Heidorf was the play-by-play announcer for the baseball team and associate head coach of the women’s basketball team. Coach Heidorf passed from synovial sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in May 2022 at 46 years old. The game is in honor of Coach Heidorf and will feature a silent auction with donations from generous sponsors in the Platteville and surrounding community with proceeds going toward the new Marc Heidorf Scholarship Fund to help students dealing with cancer in their lives.
Come out to support your Pioneers and the university community!

National Laboratories are amazing places ready to solve big problems with the right tools, and expertise. Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has an interesting 80+ year history that started with the Manhattan Project. After WWII, the same instruments used for separating ²³⁵U also separated most other elements into enriched isotopes.

This talk gives an overview of that history as well as some of my coolest projects using new tools and ideas to solve them. This includes projects in fundamental research, homeland security, discovering new elements, and a potential new route for a better isotope to cure a lot more cancer. It will be a fun and interesting talk.
