Alert: Phishing attempt spoofs Provost November 12
[Initial Report] The ITS Help Desk has received numerous reports of another separate spear phishing attempt, this time claiming to be from Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. Tammy Evetovich. This makes her officially a Pioneer now, right? As is common of spear phishing attempts, this "Quick request" is short, has a sense of urgency, and asks for the recipient's "cell number". The FROM address is NOT uwplatt but rather gmail. REMEMBER: Phishing attempts can come in many ways -- as text messages or phone calls, through apps or social media, even via snail mail. Phishing scams also typically increase during the holiday season. Maintain a healthy sense of paranoia and DO NOT RESPOND to unsolicited messages without verifying the request first.
